Dog food should contain all the nutrients that dogs need to stay healthy. There are many brands of dog food on the market that meet these requirements, making it increasingly difficult to choose the right one for your dog.

Read our detailed article on Acana.

Acana's history and values

The company behind Acana dog food was founded in 1975 in Alberta, Canada. Their products are now available in over 60 countries and are considered one of the best dog food products available on the market today.

Acana manufactures its kibbles with high quality, biologically suitable ingredients.

The brand offers several varieties of dry kibble, packed with unbeatable flavors and nutrients for a happy, healthy dog. Acana grain-free dog food is a revolutionary recipe using organic ingredients and protein from free and wild animals. This to reduce food waste, animal cruelty and environmental damage at the same time.

Today, Acana continues the tradition for which they are known and manufactures their food according to the following principles: Pet food should be designed to meet the needs of the pet, not the owner. It should provide the freshest ingredients possible to meet those needs.

Acana and Orijen brands belong to the same company, Champion Petfoods. The only difference is that Orijen generally has a slightly higher protein content, although Acana does very well in this respect.

Acana dog food contains between 40 and 70% meat and protein and is also a slightly cheaper brand than its sister brand.

Acana aims to provide a diet similar to what dogs ate before they were domesticated.

The result is a product rich in meat, with a natural source of antioxidants, and free of grains, fillers, artificial preservatives, colourings and flavourings.

Excellent value for money

As a result, Acana has some very good quality recipes. Acana strives to include the highest possible meat content while maintaining a healthy diet.

These dog food products are also grain-free. They do not contain any artificial additives or colourings.

All these products are sold at interesting prices.

Acana kibbles are classified into 4 categories:

Acana Singles

This category includes limited ingredient dog food. Only one type of meat is used to provide a satisfactory protein source. This is perfect for dogs with sensitive stomachs or food allergies.

In fact, you can easily remove the ingredient that could make your dog sick.

By analyzing the above kibbles, we see that they all have the same level of assimilable carbohydrates (29.5%), which is just on the edge of the 30% maximum but still quite acceptable. They all contain a good amount of meat, protein (31%) and are grain-free. Our opinion on this Acana range is therefore positive.

Acana Regionals

With Acana Regionals dog food, you can choose from several high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets: Pacifica, Wild Prairie, Grasslands and Ranchlands, etc.

Each variety contains 60 to 65% meat and 35 to 40% healthy fruit and vegetables. Whichever variety you choose, it's unlikely that even the pickiest eater will reject their new diet. They are suitable for adult dogs and puppies.

Acana knows how important smell is to a dog. You can add a little water to the kibble to bring out an even more delicious smell and flavour so that your dog is totally sold by his new food.

Acana Classics

This collection includes 3 different kibbles: Classic Red, Wild Coast and Prairie Poultry.

They all contain 50% meat and/or fish and a slightly lower amount of protein than the previous ranges.

Acana Heritage

This fourth and last range contains 9 different types of kibbles. You will find the classic recipes as well as some aimed at puppies or adult dogs. We introduce 3 of them to you:
