History of this breed

Probably dating from the 16th century and originating from France, the Great Anglo-French White and Orange Hound comes from a cross between English Foxhounds and French dogs, with the addition of a contribution most probably from the Billy.

The supply of English and French blood resulted in a versatile, all-terrain hunting dog that was particularly appreciated towards the end of the 19th century.

Wild boar, foxes, deer and roe deer became his specialities.

Along with the Great Anglo-French White and Black and the Great Anglo-French Tricolor Hound, he is one of the three French breeds of dog that have been crossed with English blood.

This dog of big and small game is efficient whatever the terrain he works on. This passionate hunter is tenacious, courageous, fast and powerful, and is mainly used for this sport. Although he is very friendly with his family, his primary task is hunting in packs or alone.
