English Toy Terrier (Black and Tan)

Small English Terrier, Black and Tan English Toy Terrier

The English Toy Terrier (Black and Tan) is unfortunately disappearing. Subjects are becoming increasingly rare in Europe. This excellent companion dog has a wonderful character and makes an admirable companion for life. Having retained his hunting instincts, he is formidable with the vermin that dare to venture into his garden. He easily combines the qualities of rodent hunter and life companion. It's a pity that the breed still continues on this downward slope, as much in his country of origin as anywhere else in Europe.

History of this breed

The history of the English Toy Terrier (Black and Tan) is not very elaborate. It apparently began in Great Britain.

We know that he looks a lot like his ancestor, the Manchester Terrier, they share many similarities, but the English Toy Terrier (Black and Tan) is smaller.

This selection was created by humans in order to use him as much for rat hunting as for company.

It is known that he was very popular in the homes of English aristocrats in the 19th century. The bourgeoisie of the time loved to walk around with their little animal under their arm.

However, his small size almost caused his total disappearance. This is why, in the 20th century, it was decided to restore his power and increase his size, which allowed the breed to survive.

Nevertheless, the breed is declining, and the future of this small dog is not very promising.
