With the sun setting earlier and the nights becoming even longer, it’s only natural that more of our doggie walks will happen in the dark. But how can we make sure our pups are as safe as possible when it’s harder to see them? Should we always keep them on the leash?
Well, reflective dog collars might be the answer. Of course, you should take the same safety measures as you would during the day, but a reflective dog collar allows you and others to know exactly where your pup is in poor visibility.
But which ones are the best?
What to look for in a reflective dog collar?
Before buying anything for your dog, there are certain things you need to think about to make sure you’re getting the best product available to suit both of your needs.
- How reflective is it? Some collars are only reflective in a certain area. You want to make sure you get a collar that has reflective parts all the way around so you can see your pet from all angles regardless of the weather, their hair length, or which way they’re facing.
- Durability. Our pups love to play, run, dig around in bushes and go on walks in all weather conditions. The collar has to be able to withstand whatever your dog puts it through (or nearly)! Reflective collars made from nylon are a great choice.
- Size. It might be an obvious one but make sure the collar comes in your dog’s neck size. Some dogs also prefer a wider or thinner collar.
With all that in mind, we’ve come up with a list of the 10 best reflective collars so you can make sure that the one you buy will be comfortable, last a long time, and really help to keep your dog safe at night.
Illumiseen LED Dog Collar
You can easily switch between a steady glow mode or flashing lights to use in busier areas with more traffic. This collar is made from heavy-duty nylon for long-lasting use and you can even get a matching illuminating leash to make sure your dog is really visible!
Blueberry Pet Reflective Dog Collar
The material isn’t stretchy, however, so you need to make sure you can fit your fingers in between the collar and your dog’s neck to check it isn’t too tight. This is a great, stylish collar that your pup can wear all day and all year long.
Joytale Reflective Dog Collar
It’s made of padded nylon so is comfortable around your dog’s neck, is durable, and dries quickly. You can choose from 5 different sizes and the collars fit pups with necks from 8 inches up to 28 inches! This is a wonderful collar that’s comfortable for your dog to wear all day but will also keep them safe.
Embark Illuminate Reflective Dog Collar
This Embark collar almost makes your dog glow in the dark! The whole collar is made from lines of reflective stitching so it glows really brightly when light hits it – making your pet visible from far away. It comes in either blue or pink and there’s also a harness and leash available to complete the look. It’s durable, highly visible, and very comfortable for your pup to wear. Choose from small, medium, or large to make sure it fits your pet perfectly.
Mighty Paw Waterproof Dog Collar
It also has a good-sized stripe of reflective material right the way around making your dog visible even if they’re covered in dirt or it’s early morning!
GoTags Personalized Dog Collar
And, of course, it also has a thick band of reflective material to make your pup visible in low light. It has an easy-to-close buckle, is durable, and has been designed with comfort and style in mind. It’s only available in sizes 14-22 inches, so isn’t recommended for toy breeds or very large dogs.
Red Dingo Reflective Dog Collar
Although not waterproof, it is machine washable so even if it gets a bit dirty on a particularly muddy walk, it will look as good as new the next day!
Pawtitas Collar for Dogs
The large reflective strip means your dog will be seen at night, in low visibility, and rain – meaning they’re as safe as can be.
Mile High Nylon Dog Collar
The reflective collar comes in 4 different sizes, the largest being 19 inches which means it isn’t ideal for very large dogs.
Ruffwear, Front Range Dog Harness
The sizes can also be adjusted to make it fit your dog’s unique body. The strips across the front are padded for extra comfort and all the trim is made from bright, reflective material. This is a really good, flexible harness that will keep your pup safe long after the sun sets.
Using a collar to make sure your pup is safe is a great idea. As well as getting one of the best reflective dog collars, you may want to think about buying a GPS collar to make sure you always know where they are.
